Oklahoma native Corey Kent White, a singer and songwriter, fuses longstanding country traditions with modern pop songcraft and studio techniques. Raised in Bixby, Oklahoma, he started performing vocally at three years old after discovering Garth Brooks. Guitar lessons followed at eight, and his initial stage appearance came at eleven during the Oklahoma State Fair in Tulsa. Although the crowd was modest, a listener was impressed enough to connect him with Oklahoma Stomp, a youthful ensemble devoted to classic Western Swing. White served as the group’s lead singer for five years, an experience that prompted him to view music as a viable profession. He finished high school at sixteen and promptly relocated to Nashville to pursue industry opportunities. Later he returned to Oklahoma State University, continuing to compose between lectures while forming a band for regional club dates. The resulting local popularity allowed him to split his schedule between steady Oklahoma performances and Nashville efforts to secure a recording contract. An independent three-song EP titled Making Noise appeared in 2014, followed in 2015 by his selection for Season 8 of The Voice. Placed on Blake Shelton’s team, he advanced to the Top 10 and remained until the field narrowed to the Top 8. Although he did not claim victory, the exposure broadened his reach, and he and his band toured extensively for the new listeners. A second independent EP, the five-song Long Way, arrived in May 2016.
