David-Andrew Wallach, known professionally as D.A. Wallach, formed one half of the Harvard-educated indie pop duo Chester French alongside Maxwell Drummey. Their 2007 demo drew interest from Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, sparking a bidding war that led the pair to sign with Williams’ Star Trak imprint and issue their stylistically varied debut album Love the Future in 2009. Wallach’s melodic instincts and affinity for traditional pop structures soon positioned him as an in-demand collaborator beyond Chester French. In 2010 Williams enlisted him to co-author “The Way It Is (Vector’s Theme)” for Despicable Me, and the next year Wallach teamed with Jamaican producer Supa Dups to issue several singles credited to D.A. and the Supa Dups. After Chester French delivered the 2012 album Music 4 Tngrs, Wallach shifted focus to solo work, unveiling the initial singles “Farm” and “Glowing” in 2013 via Capitol’s Harvest Records label. His keyboard-driven material drew on classic pop idioms of the 1960s and 1970s, echoing the approaches of Paul McCartney and Elton John. Enlisting assistance from Pharrell Williams along with songwriters Dan Wilson and Diane Warren, he completed his first full-length solo effort, Time Machine, which Harvest released in October 2015.
