Positioned as a sincere country vocalist happy to work within the genre's popular center lane, Dalton Dover first drew broad notice through his appearance as a contestant on the televised singing contest The Voice in 2019. After exiting the show he secured a deal with UMG and delivered several glossy, melodic standalone tracks ahead of the September 2023 arrival of his debut mini-LP Never Giving Up on That.

A Rome, Georgia native, Dover had long held ambitions for a music career, but those plans shifted when he left school at sixteen to marry his pregnant girlfriend. He took on manual-labor jobs to support his family while continuing to sing whenever possible, until his casting on The Voice in 2019 supplied the pivotal opportunity. Blake Shelton added Dover to his team, yet the contestant was cut midway through the season.

The early departure nevertheless opened doors in the business. He first issued the independent single "That Ain't in Her Plans" in 2019, followed by "Because of the Drinking" and "With All the Memories" across the next two years, before joining UMG in 2021. The label then released "You Got a Small Town" and "Baby I Am" that same year, with "Hear About the Girl" and "Damn Good Life" appearing in 2022.

Dover continued in 2023 with the singles "I Wouldn't Be Here," "Giving Up on That," and "Night to Go," the latter two of which appeared on Never Giving Up on That. He opened 2024 by recording a cover of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads."
