Formed in Long Beach, California during 1987, the alterna-metallists known as Drown first performed under the name Yesterday's Tear. Once they adopted their permanent moniker, the group deliberately wove every member's disparate influences into the music regardless of stylistic contrast. Electronics entered their arrangements at the start of the 1990s, and by 1991 the band had become a regular attraction at local rock venues. Elektra/Asylum offered a recording contract in 1993, resulting in the 1994 release of their debut album Hold On To Hollow, which included the single and fan favorite "What Is To Burn." After completing U.S. and Canadian tours alongside White Zombie, Prong, and additional acts, the musicians parted ways with Elektra, citing pressure from the label to pursue more commercial material. By the late 1990s the revised lineup featured drummer Marco Forcone, guitarist Patrick Sprawl, bassist Sean E. Demott, and singer Lauren; supported by Slipdisc/Mercury, they issued Product of A Two Faced World in 1998, widely regarded as their strongest effort to date.
