Biography
Eddie Benjamin, the Australian singer and songwriter, crafts organically soulful pop shaped by R&B traditions. That approach draws equal inspiration from the classic manner of figures such as Stevie Wonder and Todd Rundgren and from present-day colleagues including Sia and Justin Bieber. Benjamin initially attracted notice through his work as a songwriter, contributing to recordings by Bieber, Meghan Trainor, and Shawn Mendes, before attracting broader notice with the 2021 EP Emotional and tracks such as “Weatherman.”
Born in 2002, he spent his childhood in Australia as the son of Huey Benjamin and choreographer Narelle Benjamin within a household steeped in the arts. Music entered his life early, and during his teenage years he formed the pop group Haze Trio alongside school friends. The ensemble collected honors that included victory at the 2016 YouthRock talent competition. Capitalizing on that momentum, Benjamin relocated to Los Angeles and refined his skills by co-writing material for prominent artists such as Meghan Trainor, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Justin Bieber.
His solo career began in 2020 with the release of the singles “Diamond Eyes,” which featured Sia, and the Dan Gleyzer co-produced “Fuck My Friends.” Greater visibility followed in the next year through an appearance in Bieber’s documentary film and through his co-writing credit on Shawn Mendes’ hit “It’ll Be Okay.” April 2021 brought the debut EP Emotional, which included the single “Speechless.” The jazzy stand-alone single “Weatherman” surfaced in 2022, the same year Benjamin joined Bieber’s World Justice Tour.
