Originating from Guelph, Ontario, the metalcore group Farewell to Freeway is led by vocalist and guitarist Chris Lambert, whose brother Adam Lambert plays bass. Completing the lineup are Drew Harwood on guitar, Richie Gregor on drums, and Michele Walter on keyboards. The band first surfaced with the 2006 EP In These Wounds, produced by Mike Borkosky and issued on Year of the Sun Records, before securing a contract with Victory Records that yielded the full-length Definitions in 2008. Repeated Canadian tours placed them in support slots alongside Underoath, Eighteen Visions, Hopesfall, the Black Maria, Alexisonfire, Protest the Hero, Misery Signals, and Silverstein, steadily enlarging their audience with each run. Undeterred by the demanding itinerary, they returned swiftly with Only Time Will Tell in 2009. While entering the studio in 2010 to begin work on a third album produced by Eric Arena of At the Drive-In renown, Michele Walter left the band. Their resulting effort, Filthy Habits, appeared in early 2011.
