In 2003 Aden Forte and Josh Soon, two Australian producers focused on progressive house, formed the project Feenixpawl. They devoted several years to sharpening their studio craft and performance technique, turning out unofficial remixes of mainstream tracks while playing clubs around the country. Their affiliation with the Australian club brand Onelove began in 2006 and led to a recording deal with Sony BMG/Onelove Music Group in 2008. Although early material leaned heavily toward remixes for Kaz James, NERVO, and Kaskade, the duo also issued a handful of original singles that quickly became Australian club staples, among them the 2009 releases “Calypso” and “Seasons.” Their breakthrough arrived with the 2012 track “In My Mind,” a collaboration with Ivan Gough that appeared on Axwell’s Axtone Records; the single reached the top of the Australian dance charts and drew widespread support from DJs internationally. In 2013 they followed up with further singles and remixes, including the club tracks “Universe” and “Hear Me” as well as versions for John Dahlbäck and Marco V. That year also brought their first mix CD, the second disc of the split double-CD set Onelove Sonic Boom Box 2013 shared with Avicii. The following year saw collaborative singles with Disfunktion (“Fuse”) and DubVision (“Destination”), plus the launch of Eclypse Radio, a monthly podcast that hosted guest mixes from progressive house DJs such as Darude and Ivan Gough. In April 2015 Feenixpawl joined Jason Forté and Wind-Up Records to establish Eclypse Records, whose inaugural release was the duo’s single “Ghosts” featuring vocals by Melissa Ramsay. “Blue Sky,” another joint track with Jason Forté, appeared soon afterward, and the pair joined Breathe Carolina for a U.S. tour.
