During the closing years of the 1990s, Belgium rose to prominence as a key hub for electronic dance music production, releasing multiple tracks influenced by electronica's forward-looking take on techno. The group Fiocco, whose name translates to "snowflake" from Italian, made their entrance in 1997 once producers Jan Vervloet and Enzo Fumarola added vocalist Ann Loomans and performer Anja Maesen to their lineup. Affitto served as their initial successful release, which German artist Michael Nehrig—recognized professionally as Kosmonova—reworked into the track Celebrate. The outcome was Fiocco's debut full-length Free, which included the club and dance favorite "Miss You" showcasing Medusa's vocals.
