Biography
The origins of From Indian Lakes trace back to its start as Joey Vannucchi's solo endeavor. The California-based singer and songwriter, who spent his formative years on 40 acres near Yosemite National Park, first developed an affinity for drums as a multi-instrumentalist and performed with multiple groups during adolescence before shifting emphasis to guitar and composition. Complex rhythmic patterns remained central to his introspective post-rock aesthetic, leading him at age 20 to capture tracks in a friend's studio located in the adjacent community of Indian Lakes. Vannucchi initially issued those recordings under the banner Songs from Indian Lakes but later abbreviated the moniker once he assembled additional players for live performances. As a complete ensemble, the group issued its first full-length album, The Man with Wooden Legs, in 2009. Subsequent activity mixed extensive group road work with Vannucchi's intimate solo outings supporting his 2011 Acoustic EP, during which the sound progressed by incorporating elements of warm, reflective indie rock alongside sharp, angular post-rock textures. The independent 2012 album Able Bodies marked a modest commercial advance, drawing recognition from Google Play as one of the year's standout unsigned acts. Persistent touring preceded a 2013 agreement with Triple Crown Records, which issued the band's third LP, Absent Sounds, in 2014. That release broadened Vannucchi's reach, securing a Billboard Top 200 placement while generating interest in further output. Early 2016 brought the second EP Wanderer, which mixed original material with acoustic reinterpretations. Later that October, From Indian Lakes returned via Triple Crown with Everything Feels Better Now.
