Biography
Originating in Mexico, Gabito Ballesteros works as a vocalist, composer, and guitarist whose reedy tenor delivers traditional norteño and mariachi foundations fused with contemporary melodies and studio techniques. His first widespread notice arrived via the 2020 duet “El Rompecabezas” shared with Aldo Trujillo, after which he maintained a steady presence through solo tracks such as “El Chaman” and “El Sereno” alongside numerous joint releases. The 2022 single “AMG,” recorded with Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma, entered the Hot 100 and later reached the summit of Hot Latin Songs. His debut studio album, The GB, arrived in 2024.
Ballesteros is the child of Gabriel Ballesteros Guzman and Monica Abril Medina. His mother introduced him to guitar at age eight. At nine, the parish priest assembled a children’s mariachi ensemble that included Ballesteros among its four guitarists; he remained with the group for three years. During that period Carlos Hoyos supplied the Jose Alfredo Jimenez composition “El Rey” as an audition piece, after which Ballesteros assumed lead vocal duties. Although the ensemble gained local recognition, he also performed independently at street fairs, weddings, quinceañeras, political rallies, and dances.
At twelve he enrolled at the Prof. Rafael N. Varela Secondary School and secured first place in each of the three annual inter-secondary competitions he entered. At fourteen Ballesteros committed to a music career and completed summer instruction in vocal technique and guitar. He continued singing in church choirs and ensembles led by the parish priest, who additionally taught him bass, and he founded Diamante Norteno. The band rehearsed after school and uploaded song videos to YouTube and social platforms. Through social media he connected with executive Jesus Salazar, who requested additional material that Ballesteros supplied.
In September 2014 he performed “La Patadita” at the Tucson Expo Center; that November he signed a representation and promotion agreement with Texas-based No Name Records and a management contract with Arizona’s New Generation Music. The label arranged a session with Juarez’s La Destructiva Norteño Banda, yielding his debut single “Yo Quiero Ser.” The track earned modest regional airplay yet primarily secured live engagements, whether solo or as a guest with norteño and mariachi groups.
His second single, “El Rompecabezas,” appeared in August 2020 as a duet with Aldo Trujillo. One month later he issued the solo ballad “Fuentes de Ortiz.” In March 2021 Ballesteros released the live album De Mis Favoritos, Vol. 1 and joined Alex Quintero on the live banda single “Hasta la Chanclas” b/w “Leyendo Caro Quintaro.” The March 2022 solo track “La Chaman” initiated an intensive sequence of releases. “El Sereno” followed in May. In June he collaborated with Junior H on “Vamos Para Arriba,” which accumulated 200 million streams while its video matched that figure.
The year’s pinnacle came with the single “AMG” alongside Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma. The recording rapidly amassed nearly half a million digital streams and hundreds of millions of video views, entered the Hot 100 at a lower position, peaked at 41, and subsequently topped Hot Latin Songs, thereby introducing Ballesteros to a broader Mexican Regional audience.
He sustained the momentum in 2023 by issuing nine singles—both solo and collaborative—within the first quarter. “Puro Pa’ Delante” surfaced in January, succeeded by the live “Casa Claras, Cosas Buenas” with Cano and Tito Torbellino, Jr. The dramatic “Dante,” recorded with Calle 24, appeared on February 8 and highlighted Ballesteros’s guitar work. Two days later “Vete Ya,” a duet with Fuerza Regida, emerged and collected six million streams inside two weeks. One week afterward “La Bolsa Gucci” with Miguel Cornejo arrived and surpassed 15 million streams in the same interval. On March 3 Ballesteros and Junior H reunited for “Yo Corazon,” which exceeded 25 million streams during its opening fortnight.
In May 2024 Ballesteros issued his first studio album, The GB. The 22-track collection, written chiefly by Ballesteros, Daniel Candia, and Alan Lopez, emphasizes experimentation and features numerous guests including Natanael Cano and Peso Pluma on “Lucky Charms,” Kenia OS on “La Nina,” and Luis R. Conriquez and Tito Double P on “Belikon.” The set debuted at number three on Mexican Regional Albums and number five on Top Latin Albums.
