Joey Khodanian creates under the JayKode name as a Los Angeles EDM producer whose style merges melody lines drawn from classical influences with explosive trap, dubstep, and electro-house rhythms, a combination he labels "classical bass." Piano lessons began for him at seven years old, followed in his teens by guitar and an immersion in metal and hardcore sounds. Exposure to hip-hop and electronic music later prompted him to shape an approach that blends aggressive energy with dreamy textures in bass-driven tracks. Dirt, Lies & Audio Black put out his "The Gregorian Life" in 2012. From that point forward his material surfaced on various dubstep and trap compilations while he supplied remixes for Beyoncé, A-Trak, Galantis, and additional artists. Diplo, Skrillex, DJ Snake, and other prominent DJs featured his productions in their sets. Between 2015 and 2016 multiple JayKode singles appeared via Elysian Records, Unborn Records, and Borgore's Buygore. He joined Party Thieves for the track "Origin" and delivered a remix of the Chainsmokers' "Closer."
