Biography
Jeffery Austin, an American pop vocalist recognized for his clear and soulful tenor, first gained widespread attention as a competitor on the ninth season of the televised singing contest The Voice. Born Jeffery Austin McClelland, Jr. in St. Charles, Illinois, part of the Chicago suburbs, he earned a public relations degree from Loyola University Chicago and then moved to New York City to begin working in that industry. During the summer of 2015 he tried out for The Voice, marking his initial public performances since appearing in high-school musicals, and ultimately placed fourth on the program even though he had already resolved early on to build a music career no matter how the contest concluded. A rendition of Cher’s “Believe” that he delivered during the series climbed into the Top Ten on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. His contribution to The Voice: The Complete Season 9 Collection also registered on the Billboard 200.
