Kirk Jay, a country performer drawn toward soulful expression, first attracted notice in 2018 by appearing as a contestant on NBC’s singing competition The Voice. Finishing third on season 15 proved sufficient to move him past the Alabama bar circuit where he had previously performed.
Born July 1, 1996, in the small Alabama town of Bay Minette, Kirk Jay grew up in poverty and turned to music for comfort. As a child he sang in choir and learned drums, though he waited until his late teens before turning professional. Around 2015 open-mic appearances brought him initial traction, leading him to assemble the backing band Kuntry Funk. Cast on the 15th season of The Voice in 2018, he joined Blake Shelton’s team and reached the season finale, ultimately placing third overall.
