Biography
Operating under the name Lilith Czar, Los Angeles-based vocalist and songwriter Juliet Simms channels a fierce, empowering hard rock persona while also fronting the emo-punk group Automatic Loveletter and earning notice as a contestant on the 2012 season of NBC’s The Voice. The singer adopted the Lilith Czar identity in 2020 before issuing the explosive track “King” the following year, which later appeared on her debut full-length Created from Filth and Dust, released via Sumerian Records.
Born in San Francisco, Simms first attracted industry attention in 2006 when several self-recorded tracks posted to her social media profile were licensed by MTV and placed on The Real World and Road Rules. She also performs as a member of Automatic Loveletter alongside her brother, bassist and producer Tommy Simms; the outfit issued an EP, toured the Vans Warped Tour twice, and delivered the full-length The Kids Will Take Their Monsters On through Paper & Plastick in 2011.
During her run as a finalist on The Voice, Simms’ version of the Police’s “Roxanne” reached the top of the digital pop charts. After finishing as runner-up, she signed with Universal Records and put out the single “Wild Child,” only to exit the label over creative-control issues. Working independently, she released the EPs All or Nothing and From the Grave in 2015 and 2016, respectively, and married Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack that same year.
Following a period of personal challenges, Simms joined Sumerian Records in 2019 and unveiled the singles “Bad Love” and “100 Little Deaths.” She soon resurfaced as Lilith Czar, a name drawn from biblical and Babylonian sources, and embraced themes of determination, vulnerability, authenticity, and self-empowerment on the 2021 single “King,” which anchored her debut album Created from Filth and Dust later that year.
