Los Primos del Este fuse norteño, sierreño, country, and corrido tumbados with personal recollections and their Mexican roots to create the hybrid they label “norteño sax.” Established in North Carolina, the ensemble rapidly built recognition through the 2019 singles “El DB” and “Quiero Ser,” along with the 2020 album PDE. Refining that distinctive approach further, the band issued the 2023 romanticos album Amor de Lejos and expanded to a six-piece lineup ahead of 2024’s Poesías.

Geovanni Flores, handling guitar, songwriting, harmonica, and lead vocals, joined David Munoz on vocals and songwriting, Erik Altamirano on requinto, and Ariel López on bass to launch the project in 2019 while the members were still attending high school, where they first performed at house parties. Half a dozen tracks appeared digitally during this period, among them “Mi Primer Gallo” and “Quiero Ser.” Grand Records put out the initial pair of albums, PDE and Emociones, in 2020, with Flores and Munoz sharing writing credit on most tracks. Munoz departed in 2022, after which Flores assumed primary duties as composer and vocalist. One of the earliest Mexican acts to join Interscope, the group saw the label issue the inventive romanticos album Amor De Lejos in 2023. That same year Alejandro Tellez on drums, Juan Luis Hernández Rubalcava on accordion, and David Tellez on saxophone came aboard, and Poesías followed in 2024. Its closing cut, “No Fuiste Tu,” features a collaboration with La Energía Nortena.
