Melvv produces EDM from his Wisconsin base, crafting both buoyant house numbers and somewhat murkier downtempo pieces. Raised in Cedarburg, the suburb next to Milwaukee, he first connected with electronic music through footage of Daft Punk’s 2007 tour. A copy of Logic 9 arrived as a Christmas gift and prompted him to start composing; he fashioned luminous, hopeful melodies specifically to lift himself from depression. Thousands of SoundCloud followers had already accumulated by the point he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin. Singles began appearing on Yebo Music in 2015, followed in 2016 by remixes for Louis the Child and Kerli, at which stage his productions had shifted toward vocal emphasis and R&B textures.
