Originating in Dallas, Texas, Oh, Weatherly came together as a pop-punk outfit distinguished by its energetic, cheerful tone and polished vocal harmonies that soften the sting of their lyrics about failed romances. Vocalist Blake Roses launched the project in 2014 by recruiting guitarist Joshua Marsac and drummer Andrew Cope to form the initial lineup. That early configuration produced the band’s debut demo recordings, and shortly after the tracks began circulating, Dallas Matthews joined on lead guitar. A 2016 recording contract with the independent We Are Triumphant Records led to the release of the five-track EP Long Nights and Heavy Hearts. When the group began touring behind the EP, its roster had shifted to feature Roses on vocals, Matthews handling lead guitar, Angel Bedoy on rhythm guitar, Beau Harris on bass, and Jackson Bailey on drums. The single “Lost and Found” gained traction and helped expand the band’s following, prompting a move from We Are Triumphant to the established punk imprint Hopeless Records. Through the new label, Oh, Weatherly issued the 2017 EP Make You Bright, another five-song collection that introduced drummer Colton Lakey. That same year, an expanded version of Long Nights and Heavy Hearts appeared, adding two extra tracks plus brief commentary segments in which the members recount the origins of the material. The following year brought the band’s first full-length album, Lips Like Oxygen.
