Biography
R.W. Grace functions primarily as the solo outlet for Australian singer/songwriter Grace Woodroofe, who crafts atmospheric, minimalist folk and electronica. Born in Perth, Woodroofe first drew notice during 2008 when several tracks she submitted to the Triple J radio contest Unearthed attracted the attention of the Los Angeles art collective the Masses; the group subsequently invited her to California, where she refined her material in the company of American Music Club’s Mark Eitzel, bassist/producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and additional collaborators. In 2012 she issued her debut album, Always Want—a moody, blues and folk-infused set produced by guitarist Ben Harper. Two years later, under the R.W. Grace moniker, she issued the single “Pluto,” whose production was handled by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and whose sound veered toward a more arch, sophisticated electronic pop aesthetic.
