Sergio Contreras already commanded attention from Spanish pop listeners by the time "Llena de Luz y de Sal" reached stores in 2005. A seasoned industry professional, he had spent years as a radio DJ and club spinner across Andalusia before directing his energies toward songwriting and live performance. Raised in Huelva, he possessed a refined musical sensibility and sought to fuse the flamenco traditions of his roots with the R&B and hip-hop sounds he encountered while working the decks. After building a strong regional following as a leading DJ, he launched his creative project in 2004 through the independently issued "Racisme (Maqueta Asere)." Grassroots support enabled sales exceeding 5,000 units, a respectable figure for a self-released debut yet insufficient to meet his larger goals. His first full-length album, De Luz y de Sal, featured the teen anthem "Yo No Quise" and surpassed 50,000 copies, securing his initial gold certification. A summer packed with concerts and promotional appearances preceded the arrival of his breakthrough album, El Espejo, which earned him a slot on Billboard's Top European 100 and bookings throughout Europe. The 2006 edition of El Espejo, containing fresh material, tour footage, and earlier hits, moved more than 25,000 copies within its opening month. Following the path of Alejandro Sanz and El Barrio, Contreras stands among the limited number of Andalusian acts who simultaneously preserve their deep folkloric traditions while engaging contemporary sounds. Throughout the 2000s he issued three acclaimed projects—2008's La Transparencia De Un Alma, 2009's Equilibro, and 2011's Puno Y Corazon—before shifting toward a stronger pop focus on the 2013 smash single "Princesa de mi cuento".
