Shades

Shades stands as a female R&B quartet whose members include Monique Peoples, Danielle Andrews, Tiffanie Cardwell and Shannon Walker Williams. The formation of the group occurred in the early 90s once they had met at Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Motown Records became their label home, leading to the 1996 release of their strong single ‘Tell Me’ ahead of work on a self-titled debut album. Promotion for the album involved the second single ‘Serenade’, a track that registered on the US R&B charts. A looped sample drawn from Spandau Ballet’s ‘True’, which PM Dawn had already featured on ‘Set Adrift On Memory Bliss’, appeared within ‘Serenade’, and the song received a Spanish-language release designed to widen the quartet’s audience.
