Shanguy

Shanguy fuse dance-oriented pop with a genre-bending sensibility that draws on European folk roots alongside reggae, hip-hop, and electronic elements. Their breakthrough arrived via the chart-topping 2017 single “La Louze,” after which the act sustained momentum with further successes such as the 2018 release “King of the Jungle” and the 2019 outing “Désolée (Paris/Paname).”

The project originated in France during 2017, initially uniting Italian DJ NRD1, Italian indie singer/songwriter FRANK-O, and French singer/songwriter Eon Melka. Before entering the group, NRD1 had already built a profile through remixes and original collaborations involving Luca G, Dr. Space, and additional partners, while Melka and FRANK-O had each issued independent material. Once assembled, the three members achieved multi-territory number-one status and platinum certification with their inaugural single “La Louze.” A follow-up, “King of the Jungle,” surfaced in 2018, after which Melka departed and was succeeded by vocalist Shady Cherkaoui, also known as Shady.

Cherkaoui, born in Milan to Moroccan immigrant parents, developed her voice and guitar skills alongside her father from an early age. She tried out for the Italian edition of The X Factor in 2016 yet exited after the boot-camp stage; greater exposure followed when she appeared on the talent program Amici di Maria De Filippi. Post-television, she enrolled in audio-production studies at SAE Institute Milan. Her first official contribution to Shanguy arrived in 2018 with “Toukassé,” succeeded the next year by the standalone track “Désolée (Paris/Paname).”
