Biography
Gordon Hollenga and Raphael Krickow launched the Disco Boys in 1995, positioning the project at the center of Germany’s renewed fascination with disco. The act delivered sets that were campy, fun, and relentlessly danceable, quickly building a devoted audience in Hamburg through performances that blended vintage disco records with contemporary house productions. Steady live work expanded their reach, placing them on the bills of major domestic events such as Berlin’s Love Parade and Dortmund’s Mayday. The duo initiated an ongoing series of mix compilations in 2001 under the straightforward title Vol. 1. That same year they entered record production with their own single, a cover of Patrick Hernandez’s classic disco hit “Born to Be Alive.” Tension with their label Kontor surfaced in 2004 when the company initially declined to issue the single “For You”; after sustained pressure from the pair the track eventually appeared, yet the partnership remained damaged. Their seventh mix volume in 2007 marked the final release for Kontor, while the new single “What You Want” came out on the freshly signed label Superstar.
