Biography
Emerging from Los Angeles, the Scarlet Opera fuses rock pageantry with Broadway bombast to generate a blend of sonic and visual pleasures. The group draws its title from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s gothic romance The Scarlet Letter, seeking to shelter those cast aside or falsely portrayed. After beginning as Perta, the ensemble reformed in 2022 as the Scarlet Opera, guided by frontman and lyricist Luka Bazulka, an artist whose vocal command and theatrical flair recall Freddie Mercury and Elton John. The roster was completed by Colin Kenrick on keyboard, Daniel Zuker on bass, Justin Siegal on drums, and Chance Taylor on guitar; Republic Records took notice of the ensemble’s magnetic stage shows and enlisted songwriter and producer David Stewart (BTS, Jonas Brothers) for a collaboration. Later in 2022 the band released its first single, “The Place to Be,” followed in 2023 by the five-song EP Comedy.
