Nashville-based act 1GN channels the upbeat teen pop energy of artists such as Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and Katy Perry through a faith-centered lens, merging that approach with the modern pop drive of One Direction and the thematic messaging of tobyMac. The group first assembled in 2012 under the name 1 Girl Nation, drawing together Lauryn Taylor Bach, Lindsey Ciresi, Carmen Justice, Kayli Robinson, and Kelsey Sowards, each of whom had already achieved individual success prior to uniting. The five members signed with Reunion Records, an imprint of Provident, in 2013 and issued their self-titled debut album that August. Sowards exited in May 2014, after which the remaining members issued A Merry 1 Girl Nation Christmas several months later, including their rendition of “Let It Go.” Ciresi departed before the close of that same year. Reemerging in 2016 as a trio under the 1GN banner, the act unveiled a rhythm-driven style on the track “Get Hype,” a sound positioned closer to Ke$ha and Iggy Azalea than to Taylor Swift. Their second full-length project, Unite, was slated to arrive in April.
