A Thousand Horses

Hailing from Nashville, A Thousand Horses deliver a gritty yet polished take on Southern rock that fuses bar-band energy with country-pop instincts. Their sound merges hard-edged classic rock, contemporary country, and open-road Americana, drawing from the Southern rock lineage of the Black Crowes and Lynyrd Skynyrd while adding the rugged songwriting ethos of heartland rock and Red Dirt country. Following several years of local gigs and regional work, the group broke out in 2015 when their first single, "Smoke," reached the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart. They spent the ensuing period steadily expanding their following through relentless live dates, releasing the occasional standalone track or short collection such as the 2018 EP Bridges. In 2022 the band returned with the rugged, sharply written full-length Broken Heartland, then slimmed to a trio and issued their third album, The Outside, in 2024.

The project reflects the long-running partnership of Newberry, South Carolina natives Michael Hobby (lead vocals, harmonica) and Bill Satcher (lead guitar), who began writing and performing together at age fifteen. Completing the lineup are Graham DeLoach (bass, vocals) and Zack Brown (guitar, vocals). The quartet put out a self-titled debut EP in 2010, which secured a recording contract with Big Machine Records/Republic Nashville in 2014. Their inaugural label single, "Smoke," topped the charts and brought national attention, while the follow-up "(This Ain't No) Drunk Dial" climbed to number 22. Their first studio album, Southernality, arrived in 2015 amid a North American tour and reached the Top Five early the next year. In 2018 they released the six-song EP Bridges.

From 2019 through 2020 the band rolled out several singles—"My Time's Comin'," "Livin' My Best Life," "Drinking Song," and "A Song to Remember," the last of which marked their debut release on the independent Highway Sound label. Two further years of writing and recording produced the long-anticipated second album Broken Heartland, which appeared in August 2022. After Brown departed in 2023, the remaining members continued as a trio and delivered the more streamlined yet richly melodic The Outside in August 2024.
