Aden

Indie-pop ensemble Aden took shape under the direction of vocalist and guitarist Jeff Gramm, offspring of Texas senator Phil Gramm. Initially called Dingle, the lineup that also featured bassist Fred Kovey and drummer Josh Klein came together at the University of Chicago campus during 1995 and enlisted Sabalon Glitz’s Chris Holmes to helm their first single, “Scooby Doo.” After cutting the self-titled debut LP for the hometown Fortune4 imprint in 1997, Aden grew into a quartet by welcoming guitarist Kevin Barker. Gramm and Kovey soon moved to Washington, D.C., while Klein and Barker stayed behind in Chicago, where the former took up music journalism and the latter pursued his academic work. Without Klein, the band regrouped in 1999 for the TeenBeat release Black Cow, followed a year later by Hey 19.
