Biography
Emerging from Mexico, DJ and producer Alex Midi built his reputation around a distinctive blend of deep house and electro pop. At the outset of the EDM boom, he forged a path through the growing Mexican dance circuit by rejecting the era’s dominant dubstep drops and instead drawing from the legacies of Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, and Kraftwerk. A few singles had surfaced by the close of the 2000s, yet his 2016 cover of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” quickly established itself on dancefloors worldwide. In the years that followed he issued additional tracks, among them further reinterpretations of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle” and Alphaville’s “Big in Japan,” while establishing himself as a fixture on the international club circuit. By 2020 his polished fusion of progressive deep house and pop had crystallized, resulting in the release of his debut album, Personal Computer Music. Teaming with an array of vocalists, he revisited a selection of ’80s pop classics that had shaped his own aesthetic, reviving material originally performed by INXS, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran.
