Biography
Ohio-based Attack Attack surfaced in 2007, blending screamo and metalcore with electronic textures into a signature style that positioned the group at the forefront of the electronicore movement during its brief existence. Despite a career that ended in 2013, the Warped Tour regulars issued three pivotal full-lengths—Someday Came Suddenly, Attack Attack!, and This Means War—before the project went dormant. A reunion was declared in 2020, followed by the 2021 EP Long Time, No Sea.
Distinct from other similarly named acts that proliferated early in the century, this Ohio ensemble maintained a firm commitment to Christian principles while operating within the screamo and metalcore sphere. The lineup that coalesced in 2005 featured Austin Carlile on vocals, Johnny Franck handling guitar and vocals, Andrew Whiting on guitar, Nick White on bass (later succeeded by John Holgado), Caleb Shomo on keyboards, and Andrew Wetzel behind the drums. After signing with Rise Records, the band delivered its debut album Someday Came Suddenly in 2008 and spent the ensuing months on the road alongside Black Tide, Burn Halo, and Escape the Fate.
Carlile departed midway through the 2008 tour and was succeeded by Nick Barham, formerly of For All We Know; Barham stayed for a single year before exiting as well. Rather than recruit another vocalist, the group elevated keyboardist Caleb Shomo to lead singer and began recording its next effort. The self-titled Attack Attack! arrived in June 2010, introducing Shomo in the frontman role. Later that year Johnny Franck announced his departure, after which Shomo assumed every vocal responsibility. This Means War, released in 2012, became the first album cut as a quartet and the first on which Shomo handled both all vocal parts and production duties. The subsequent tour marked the band’s final run of shows before it entered an indefinite hiatus.
In 2020 the original members Andrew Wetzel and Andrew Whiting regrouped with bassist Jay Miller and vocalist Chris Parketny, issuing the single “All My Life.” Two additional tracks, “Kawaii Cowboys” and “Brachyura Bombshell,” followed in 2021, and all three songs appeared on the Long Time, No Sea EP.
