American rock band Avion Roe first surfaced during the early 2010s behind the fiery debut album The Art of Fiction. Once they inked a deal with Epitaph, the group delivered their emotive breakthrough recording, the 2016 effort In Separation, which drew from the lineage of Dashboard Confessional and Jimmy Eat World. Following a lengthy absence from the scene, the outfit resurfaced in 2021 via the Unreleased EP.

Vocalist Evan Couture and drummer Josh Cutlip assembled the outfit in Dallas, Texas, where bassist Sean Humphrey and guitarist Jordan Modro completed the original roster. Echoing the approach of Yellowcard and the Used, the quartet self-produced their first LP, The Art of Fiction, completing the sessions in just four months during 2011; they cultivated a following through high-energy, physical Vans Warped Tour appearances that included climbing rafters and swinging microphones.

The resulting visibility prompted Avion Roe to join Epitaph Records in September 2015, where they refined both their aesthetic and sonic direction. Their initial release for the label, the single “Into the Rest,” included a guest turn from labelmate Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens. That song appeared on 2016’s In Separation, an album marked by a more uplifting and anthemic tone. Couture, Modro, and Kris Crummett—known for his work with Issues and Sleeping with Sirens—handled production duties, while the mature collection also contained the track “This Loneliness.” The band retreated from public view in the late 2010s before issuing the Unreleased EP upon their 2021 return.
