While enrolled in music school, the six members who would become Brazeros Musical de Durango first crossed paths. At the time, Grupo Montéz de Durango enjoyed massive popularity among these aspiring players and their classmates, prompting the idea that they too could assemble a comparable act. The friends soon convened with their instruments for spontaneous sessions that incorporated computer-generated sounds to round out the arrangements. Once the roster was complete, the group launched into gigs at local parties and community dances. Agent Juan Loredo took notice and offered them representation. Because the musicians ranged in age from 14 to 21, meetings with Loredo also included their parents, who proceeded with caution. Only months afterward, Terrazas Records issued the debut album El Errante, which moved more than 15,000 copies in under a month amid surging demand. The follow-up, Buscando Amores, appeared on Loredo Records and secured bookings in Chicago, duranguense’s American stronghold. Enthusiastic crowds there translated into steady airplay and a widening audience. Listeners in the duranguense community responded especially to the band’s youthful appearance and boundless vigor. Maintaining a visible chart profile since 2004 and securing a deal with the influential Disa label, the six young men of Brazeros Musical de Durango carved out a firm foothold well before every member reached legal driving age.
