Having performed intermittently for seven years under the same name, the Toronto band Bunny issued their self-titled debut album in 2017. The core lineup brought together vocalist/guitarist Drew Smith and bassist Andrew Scott, both drawn from the Toronto-based indie pop greats the Bicycles, along with guitarist Jordan Howard of I Am Robot and Proud, synth player Dan Werb of Woodhands, and Comet Control’s Jay Anderson on drums. To realize their aim of crafting a soft rock Pet Sounds, the band drew on an extensive circle of associates during the recording of their first album, including Marker Starling’s Chris Cummings, the Elwins’ Travis Stokl, Chris Sandes of Comet Control, José Contreras, Brent Randall (aka Gentle Brent), and fellow Bicycles members Dana Snell and Randy Lee. Christine Bougie added pedal steel, while Isla Craig and Meighan Duffin supplied guest lead vocals. Tin Angel, the U.K. label, released Bunny in August of 2017.
