Biography
George Birge, once part of the propulsive country-pop outfit Waterloo Revival, stepped out on his own in 2021 and quickly scored an online sensation with the meme-inspired “‘Beer Beer, Truck Truck,’” a track that playfully celebrated every country-music stereotype. On his self-titled 2022 EP he kept twisting familiar genre conventions in fresh directions, most notably with the smoldering single “Mind on You,” which finally broke through more than a year after release and became a substantial hit by the close of 2023.
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Birge first gravitated toward music during his teenage years. There he connected with Cody Cooper, and together they taught themselves the fundamentals of playing, singing, and crafting country songs as a duo. After high school the two went separate ways, yet Birge returned to Austin following his 2013 college graduation and revived the partnership, launching the act Waterloo Revival. The duo landed a contract with Big Machine Records and notched modest Country Airplay entries in 2015 with “Hit the Road” and “Bad for You” before moving to Show Dog-Universal in 2016. They kept issuing singles and EPs until disbanding in early 2021.
Birge began his solo chapter later that year, initially focusing on songwriting—Clay Walker cut his co-written tracks “Catchin’ Up with an Old Memory” and “Need a Bar Sometimes”—before issuing his own recordings. Walker encouraged Birge to harness social media, a move that propelled “‘Beer Beer, Truck Truck’” to viral status and paved the way for a deal with Records Nashville. The label released “Mind on You” ahead of Birge’s self-titled debut EP in early 2022. After gaining traction in the latter half of 2023, the single climbed to number seven on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. During its ascent Birge issued Mind on You: The Album in May 2023 and joined Rodell Duff on “Outta Dirt” as well as Raelynn on “Whiskey Go Round.”
