Hyland, a Contemporary Christian pop group, came together in Minneapolis, Minnesota, under the leadership of Jon Lewis, who handled vocals, guitar, and songwriting, joined by guitarists Matt Lennander and Tim Neff, bassist Lee Carter, and drummer Steve Weigel. For several years, the ensemble built a following through local performances across the region prior to launching a nationwide tour, though they did manage to issue two self-released EPs during 2008 and 2009, specifically Polyphonic Telegraph #1 and Quotients. Their growing traction secured a contract in 2010 with the established Christian indie imprint Tooth & Nail, resulting in the 2011 arrival of their first full-length album, Weights & Measures. This development ushered in extensive touring opportunities and shifts in personnel. A reconfigured lineup emerged by 2012 that incorporated Ben Early on keyboards and backing vocals while seeing the departures of Neff, Carter, and Lennander; guitarist Mitch Hansen and bassist Josiah Erickson stepped in to fill the vacancies. This refreshed ensemble hit the road once more and produced their second album, Finding Our Way, which came out in October 2012.
