Biography
Jennie Kim, a South Korean vocalist and founding member of BlackPink, ascended rapidly alongside the K-pop quartet to dominate various charts before carving out her own path as a solo performer who broke multiple benchmarks. Drawing stylistic cues from vocalists including Rihanna, she launched her initial success via the precisely named 2018 release "SOLO," which positioned JENNIE as the first solo female K-pop artist to reach the summit of the Billboard World Digital chart. Outside the group she notched another success in 2023 with the tender dance-pop number "You & Me," then followed it with "Mantra" in 2024.
Kim Je-ni came into the world in Seoul during 1996 and received schooling in New Zealand prior to heading back home for an audition at YG Entertainment. While preparing for her career she collaborated with Lee Hi, G-Dragon, and Seungri, ultimately making her first appearance in 2016 as part of BlackPink. The quartet's energetic fusion of hip-hop and pop propelled them to the forefront of the Korean and U.S. World charts. After turning her attention back to BlackPink, she resurfaced independently in June 2023 on the joint track "One of the Girls" alongside Canadian superstar the Weeknd with JENNIE and French-American actress/singer Lily-Rose Depp. That recording appeared on the soundtrack EP The Idol Episode 4 tied to the HBO series that starred Depp. Five years after her first solo outing, JENNIE delivered "You & Me" in October 2023. The romantic dance-pop cut found international traction, securing a Top Five placement on Korea's Circle Digital Chart and a Top Ten slot on Billboard's Global 200.
