Justus Bennetts, a singer and rapper rooted in North Carolina, has built a reputation around his hybrid style that fuses punk energy with hip-hop elements inside a pop framework. His sound often sits between the worlds of Machine Gun Kelly and Chance the Rapper, drawing listeners in through early releases such as “Nightstand,” “Cool Kids,” “Real Life Sux,” and “Girls.”

Born in Seattle in 2000, Bennetts first encountered music through his uncle’s rock band Point Defiance during childhood, alongside jazz records played by his mother and aunt. His father further shaped his tastes by exposing him to Green Day, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, and Papa Roach. After relocating with his family to North Carolina, he immersed himself in hip-hop, absorbing the work of J. Cole, Logic, and Chance the Rapper. These experiences prompted him to begin crafting original material that layered rap techniques over punk and emo textures.

He soon shared his songs online, starting with the 2021 track “Nightstand,” which quickly gained traction across streaming services and social platforms. Subsequent singles arrived in quick succession, among them “Real Life Sux,” “Bad Day,” and “Cool Kids,” the last of which emerged as a notable alt-pop success. To open 2022, Bennetts issued the buoyant single “Girls.”
