Biography
Emerging in Uruguay toward the close of the 1980s, the Latin rock group Los Buitres assembled after the breakup of Los Estómagos. Fronted by singer and harmonica player Gabriel Peluffo, with guitarist Gustavo Parodi, drummer Marcelo Lasso, and bassist José Rambao completing the roster, the band introduced itself through the album Buitres Después De La Una and the follow-up La Bruja. Exposure to wider crowds arrived when Los Buitres served as openers for the Cult at Montevideo's Rock Festival II. Their earliest videos, tied to the songs "Una Vez Más" and "La Ultima Canción," appeared in 1992. Maraviya arrived in October 1993 and was unveiled onstage at Verano theatre. Throughout the 1990s Los Buitres ranked among Uruguay's busiest rock outfits, securing shows in Argentina and earning rotation on MTV Latino for the clips "Calaveratur" and "Del Cardal." Following the arrival of drummer Irvin Carballo, Rantifusa came out in 1998.
