Lyrical Lemonade ranks among the standout achievements to arise from the rap scene in the late 2010s, moving from vocal advocacy for MCs to hands-on work alongside them. Chicago-area native Cole Bennett started the outlet in 2013 as a music blog that posted video summaries of area concerts, interviews, and clips spotlighting local standouts including Vic Mensa and King Louie. He soon rose to prominence directing visuals, linking with leading SoundCloud rap artists such as Ski Mask the Slump God, Smokepurpp, Lil Pump, and Famous Dex. Mainstream exposure arrived in 2018 when he directed Juice WRLD’s number-two single “Lucid Dreams,” opening doors to further projects with Eminem, Jack Harlow, Polo G, Post Malone, Justin Bieber, and Blink-182.
After ten years focused on the camera, Bennett gathered friends and associates throughout 2023 to create All Is Yellow, issued through a joint venture with Def Jam. The album treated the Lyrical Lemonade name as a broad conceptual frame instead of any fixed vocal or production approach. Its singles comprised “Doomsday,” which featured a posthumous Juice WRLD verse, and “Stop Giving Me Advice,” which included Harlow alongside British conscious rapper Dave, plus additional tracks uniting Kid Cudi, Lil Durk, Joey Bada$$, and Lil Yachty.
