Biography
Brooklyn-based metal unit Made Out of Babies unleashed a punishing sonic assault that earned nods to noise-rock standard-bearers Jesus Lizard along with Babes in Toyland and Big Black. Their debut full-length, Trophy, arrived in 2005. After inking a deal with Neurot Recordings, vocalist Julie Christmas, guitarist Brendan Tobin, bassist Cooper, and drummer Matthew Egan garnered widespread praise for both their ferocious stage presence and their equally ferocious studio output, a ceaseless post-metal barrage anchored by an even fiercer frontwoman. Coward, their follow-up, was tracked in Chicago under Steve Albini’s guidance in 2006 and landed on numerous year-end lists as one of the strongest releases across metal and other genres alike. By 2008 the group remained entrenched in Brooklyn, shaping fresh material slated for both live debuts and an eventual third album.
