Formed in 2010, the London-based crossover electronic/dubstep group Modestep brought together brothers Josh, responsible for production, vocals, and keyboards, and Tony Friend, who covered production, turntables, and guitar, along with Matthew Curtis on drums and percussion and Nick Tsang handling guitar. Their first outing arrived in February 2011 through the energetic single “Feel Good,” which climbed into the Top Ten of the U.K. dance chart and also entered the Top 40 of the main pop chart. Issued on Polydor that August, “Sunlight” adopted an even sharper, more aggressive edge and performed more strongly still, reaching the Top 20 on the pop chart while the band prepared its first full-length project. Delayed several times, Evolution Theory finally appeared in February 2013. Once touring wrapped, Matthew Curtis and Nick Tsang left the lineup and were succeeded by Kyle Deek and Pat Lundy. The refreshed roster quickly assembled London Road, which featured contributions from the Partysquad, Big Narstie, and Flowdan, before releasing the album in May 2015.
