Originating in Winnipeg, the Canadian Americana outfit Nathan crafts an eccentric and captivating sound that fuses country traditions with untamed Gypsy strains and earthy roots pop, all enhanced by a Tom Waits-inspired production aesthetic that throws in every available element. Fronting the group are the lush vocal harmonies of guitarist Keri Latimer, who previously recorded as Keri McTighe, and Shelley Marshall on banjo, guitar, and her potent accordion, while the dependable and flexible rhythm section features Devin Latimer on bass and Damon Mitchell on drums.

The ensemble’s history reaches back to 1995, when McTighe entered Christine Fellows’ Special Fancy lineup and soon brought Marshall aboard from her earlier stint in Hugo Torres’ band. Special Fancy dissolved not long after Marshall’s arrival, yet McTighe and Marshall sustained their partnership and formally launched Nathan in 1999. The band issued Stranger in 2001, then followed with the critically acclaimed Jimson Weed in 2004 and the impressive Key Principles, produced by Howard Redekopp, in 2007.
