Biography
In the mid-2010s Baton Rouge, Louisiana gave rise to Never Broke Again, a hip-hop label and collective whose primary architect was co-founder YoungBoy Never Broke Again. The artist cultivated a devoted audience through unvarnished, forceful storytelling and repeatedly claimed the top slot on the Billboard 200. Fellow members Quando Rondo and NoCap likewise registered chart entries, while additional signings such as Lil Dump and NBA ChoppaBoyE expanded the roster in later years. Following a 2021 alliance with Motown Records, the label issued Never Broke Again: The Compilation, Vol. 1, and it has since continued to deliver projects including the 2023 mixtape Green Flag Activity, Vol. 2.
YoungBoy Never Broke Again and OG 3Three launched the enterprise in 2015. YoungBoy immediately embarked on a steady stream of mixtapes, one of which was the collective’s 2017 release Extortion Season. After developing an independent audience, he secured a 2017 deal with Atlantic and put out the platinum-certified AI YoungBoy alongside the Moneybagg Yo collaboration Fed Baby’s; both projects landed inside the Billboard 200’s upper twenty-five positions. Quando Rondo and NoCap soon emerged as the label’s subsequent breakthroughs, and the lineup grew further with the additions of P Yungin and Meechy Baby. In 2020 the group dropped the ensemble mixtape Ain’t 2 Long, featuring nearly every artist on its roster.
The Motown partnership was announced in 2021, shortly after YoungBoy achieved his fourth Billboard 200 number one with Sincerely, Kentrell. Never Broke Again: The Compilation, Vol. 1 arrived that November and registered on the Billboard 200. Two further mixtapes, Green Flag Activity and Nightmare on 38th St., surfaced in 2022, the same year WhoGangDee, Lil Dump, and NBA ChoppaBoyE joined and released material through the imprint. NoCap departed amid public disagreements with YoungBoy on social media. The track “Realize,” which featured Lil Dump, Rojay MLP, and Big B, served as the lead single for Green Flag Activity, Vol. 2 in 2023.
