Peyote Asesino, a Uruguayan hardcore rap outfit, originated in the mid-'80s when singer L. Mental, bassist Daniel Benia, and guitarist Juan Campodonico launched the project; singer/guitarist Carlos Casacuberta and drummer P.P. Canedo soon completed the lineup. Securing victory in the local Generation '95 contest gave Peyote Asesino the chance to cut its debut album, which Gabriel Casacuberta produced for release on Orfeo. The self-titled effort, unveiled through a live set at a neighborhood club, contained a rendition of the Rolling Stones classic "Satisfaction (I Can't Get No)." In March 1997 the group shared bills with Argentinean Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas before signing to Gustavo Santaolalla's Surco label, which handled sessions for the second album. Terraja followed, reaching U.S. stores in 1998 and triggering a subsequent trek through Mexico in the company of Molotov and Control Machete.
