In 2021 Mexican vocalist Ramon Vega entered the music industry through the single "Contigo Mami," which blended Regional Mexican, R&B, Latin, and reggaeton while reinterpreting Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman."

Coming from a musical lineage in which his brother Cornelio Vega and the late Sergio "El Shaka" Vega, his uncle, had already achieved success as performers, Vega signed with Sony Music Latin in 2020 and then issued his first single, "Contigo Mami," a reworking of Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman," at the start of 2021. The track's fusion of Regional Mexican, R&B, Latin, and reggaeton quickly gained traction, prompting Vega to issue several follow-up recordings that he later assembled into the EP 2000 SIEMPRE. Additional songs appeared throughout the remainder of the year, among them the duet "Romántico" recorded with his brother Cornelio, before Vega delivered his first full-length project, the seven-track album La Nueva R, that November.
