Biography
Growing up in Alabama, Rubberband OG devoted much of his young adulthood to crafting his own recordings before attracting notice through a deal with Think It's a Game Records. Once on the roster he linked with veteran producers and rappers, including Zaytoven, YFN Lucci, Q Money, and additional collaborators, exploring subjects that stretched from gun violence and financial struggles to heartfelt tributes honoring his mother, the woman who juggled several jobs while raising him single-handedly.
Also known as Cortez Oates, the rapper was born and raised in Montgomery, where a drum machine received on his thirteenth birthday sparked his first forays into music. He spent the next several years operating without a label, uploading clips of his early tracks to the internet and steadily building an audience. In 2016 Think It's a Game Records took notice, prompting a signing that led directly to the release of the Zaytoven-produced single “Hood Back” and to his role hosting the Strictly 4 Traps and Trunks Project Baby Edition mixtape. The 2017 project Bout That Life contained a moody title track of the same name along with guest spots from YFN Lucci and Eldorado Red; the following year he issued the follow-up mixtape The Streets Need Me.
