Biography
Harrison McQueeney, who records as Souly Had, writes songs with an unguarded spirit and sings them in a sweet yet faintly raspy tone. His music fuses rustic soul, off-kilter R&B, and rugged rock while retaining a grounded, relatable character. Raised in New York, he turned an impromptu acoustic rendition of Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” into enough online traction to land a contract with Island Records.
At ten he first touched a guitar, then five years later began crafting beats. Material started appearing while he studied at SUNY Schenectady community college. A self-titled EP surfaced in 2016 on Entrèband, the label arm of the hip-hop collective he co-established, after which his cover of “Valerie” rapidly expanded his digital audience. More than a dozen singles followed across 2017 and 2018, among them “Crush,” “Overrated,” and several tracks produced with Purpdogg.
Signing with Island Records lifted his profile higher. The B.L.I.S.S. EP marked his major-label arrival in 2019, collecting “Crush,” “Overrated,” and several newer cuts. Island’s involvement extended into early 2021, yielding “Sunlight,” “Goner,” and “Maybe Not,” the last a duet with Mac Ayres. Months after his final major-label single, he returned to independence with “Way 2 High.” Further singles issued in 2022 and 2023 preceded the 2024 full-length Sounds Like You’re Still Here, on which his sound coalesced into a fluid blend of styles.
