Hamburg, Germany serves as home base for the female singer/songwriter duo BOY. Singer Valeska Steiner, originally from Zurich, Switzerland, and musician Sonja Glass first crossed paths in 2005 at Hamburg's Hochschule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Theater), which led them to establish the band in 2007. Numerous concerts later drew the attention of Herbert Grönemeyer, who added the duo to his Grönland label in 2011. An acoustic EP titled Hungry Beast appeared ahead of their folk-pop debut album Mutual Friends, which reached stores in September 2011, entered the German album charts at number 14, and climbed to the top of the Amazon sales charts. Their single "Little Numbers," which reached number 65 on the charts, appeared in the movie Kein Sex Ist Auch Keine Lösung, the TV comedy series Knallerfrauen, and the Lufthansa spot "Nonstop You." In 2012 BOY issued Acoustic Session, containing live acoustic versions of songs from Mutual Friends performed by the duo. The following year they undertook their first tour of the United States, which featured a set at Austin's SXSW festival. In 2015 BOY returned with their sophomore full-length album, We Were Here.
