Biography
Cody Lovaas crafts soulful pop tunes that reflect the influence of Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and his mentor Jason Mraz, who first spotted him at an open-mike performance when Lovaas was 14. EDM producers Shallou and Kasbo brought a more atmospheric dimension to his guitar-centered material on the 2018 single “Find,” which surpassed ten million streams within months. His debut EP, Honestly, surfaced in 2019 and fused acoustic songwriting with downtempo electronic textures.
Born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Carlsbad, California, Lovaas began playing guitar at age seven. Mraz discovered him during his freshman year of high school at a coffee-shop open mike in nearby Oceanside, soon taking on a mentorship role and securing an audition with his own management company. After signing with the firm, Lovaas spent his mid-teens touring the West Coast and participating in Los Angeles studio sessions. His first national outing came in 2014 when he opened for Mraz on the Yes! tour. That August he issued the digital album Live at the Carlsbad Village Theatre and received the Best New Artist award at the San Diego Music Awards before year’s end.
Following his signing with Black Box, Lovaas delivered the official debut single “Lie” in early 2017; playlist placements quickly drove it to millions of streams. The atmospheric “Find,” again produced by Shallou and Kasbo, achieved even greater viral traction in 2018. That same year he released “Turbulence,” which featured The Voice 2013 finalist Caroline Pennell. Mid-2019 saw the arrival of his debut EP, Honestly, on Black Box.
