Biography
The electronicore act the Bunny the Bear originated in Buffalo, New York, in 2008, when vocalists Matthew "The Bunny" Tybor and Chris "The Bear" Hutka established the project and took on its signature masked personas. Tybor supplies the screamed vocals while Hutka handles the clean parts, and the pair has remained the creative nucleus even as supporting players rotate through the lineup. Onstage the group expands to include guitarists Alex Matos and Nate Blasdell, bassist John Halstead, and drummer Tommy Vinton. The resulting style blends the heavy chug of metalcore with EDM synth textures and shifts between soaring melodies and harsh screams, producing an aesthetic as eccentric as the masked presentation itself.
The band’s self-released, self-titled debut arrived in 2010. Shortly thereafter the duo joined Victory Records and issued the follow-up If You Don't Have Anything Nice to Say... in 2011, then The Stomach for It the next year. Stories followed in 2013, and Food Chain appeared on the same label in 2014. A Liar Wrote This marked the final Bunny the Bear album for both Hutka and Victory Records when it surfaced in 2015. Although Hutka had stepped away temporarily on earlier occasions, this exit proved permanent, prompted by creative differences, family obligations, and plans to pursue solo work. The Needful Things label subsequently welcomed the band, which brought in Joseph "The Bear 3.0" Garcia as the new vocalist and released The Way We Rust.
