Biography
Emerging onto the national stage during 2016, Trent Harmon displayed his soulful vocal delivery while competing on the fifteenth season of the televised singing contest American Idol and securing the top prize. Born in Amory, Mississippi, he began performing in church as a child and later took part in musical theater productions throughout high school as well as during his time as a student at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. In the process he acquired skills on piano, guitar, and drums. While employed at his family’s restaurant in his hometown, a friend persuaded him to audition for the talent series The Voice in 2014. After advancing past the New Orleans tryout he was flown to Los Angeles for the competition, yet his segment never aired and he was cut from the show. Still motivated, he attended an American Idol casting call in Little Rock, Arkansas, during August 2015, where his retro-soul approach impressed the judges. The season premiered in January 2016, and he was declared the winner that April. His closing performance, “Falling,” co-written in part by judge Keith Urban, served as his debut single through the recording contract awarded by Big Machine Records. The country-soul recording reached the Billboard Digital Songs chart along with several country rankings. In 2018 Harmon released his first full-length album, You Got ’Em All, which featured a remix of “Falling” together with the single “There’s a Girl.”
