Biography
Two-9 arose in 2009 as a boisterous Atlanta hip-hop crew assembled by anime- and skateboard-culture enthusiasts Curtis Williams, Maurice "Reese" Williams, and Key. Initially operating under the name Pilot Music, the trio adopted their final moniker—selected by Key—to signal the year they came together. The lineup later grew to encompass Lightskin Mac11 and Cartier Dave of FatKidsBrotha, Jace and CeeJ from the Retro Su$h! duo, and DJ Osh Kosh. Individual members issued solo material at the same time the collective operated, much as Odd Future and A$AP Mob had done; Williams released Trill Shit Only while Reese issued Reese vs. the World 1, both in 2011. Their first mixtape, Two-9 Forever, surfaced in July 2012, with A Two-9 Christmas following before the year closed. Reese exited after the group signed to Mike Will Made It's EarDruma imprint in 2014 so he could concentrate on solo work. Two-9 delivered the mixtape B4 FRVR in 2015 together with the EP trilogy #AugustTwo9, #SeptemberTwo9, and #OctoberTwo9. Their first proper studio album, FRVR, appeared on EarDruma/Interscope in 2017 and contained the single "Rackades" along with contributions from Black Boe, Chico, and ManMan Savage.
